A Piano Afternoon at NOCCA with NOIPC Medalist Kenny Broberg
Thursday, March 26, 2015 @ 1:30 PM
New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts (NOCCA) – 2800 Chartres Street
In partnership with the Steinway Society of New Orleans and the Musical Arts Society of New Orleans (MASNO), Hall Piano Company presents Kenny Broberg for an afternoon of piano. A recent medalist of the New Orleans International Piano Competition (NOIPC) in 2014, Broberg returns to New Orleans to perform, hold a masterclass for NOCCA students, and share his experiences in the New Orleans Piano Institute (NOPI) and NOIPC.
Kenny Broberg is twenty-one years old, and has studied the piano since age six. A resident of Minneapolis, Kenny studied for nine years with Dr. Joseph Zins. Following high school, he moved to Houston, where he currently studies at the Moores School of Music with Nancy Weems. He has also taken private lessons from or been in masterclasses with Abbey Simon, Bernd Goetzke, Menahem Pressler, and Arie Vardi, among others. He plays “with an emotional sophistication far beyond his years” (Duluth News Tribune). Kenny has played concerti with a number of orchestras, including the Minnesota Orchestra, the Moores School Symphony Orchestra, and the Moores School Wind Ensemble. Awards include the Bronze Medal at the New Orleans International Piano Competition, Silver and Bronze Medals at the Wideman International Piano Competition, the Gold Medal at the Mika Hasler Young Artist Competition, and the Silver Medal at the Young Texas Artists Music Competition. Solo, concerto, and chamber performances have been aired on the radio on NPR and KUHF 91.7 Houston. Kenny is also in great demand as a collaborative artist.
