Nicholls State University is now celebrating a major milestone on their road to becoming an All-Steinway School: they are nearly halfway through replacing the total piano inventory with Steinway & Sons pianos. An initiative to start an All-Steinway School acquisition started in February of 2008 with two Model O Steinway grand pianos into the piano major teaching studio.

The newest acquisition represents a huge step forward to an All-Steinway School status for Nicholls State University. Five Steinway pianos total were selected, consisting of two Model K 52″ uprights, two Model 1098 45″ uprights, and a Model B 6’10-1/2″ Semi-Concert grand. The pianos are being placed into service in teaching studios and practice rooms.

At the end of the All-Steinway School initiative, Nicholls will be the first state institution to become an All-Steinway School. An even more impressive feat is the fact that the money raised to purchase these world class instruments were from private funds. The entire community supporting Nicholls State University should be applauded for their commitment to excellence in the gold standard that is Steinway pianos, but especially so for Dr. David Boudreaux, Vice President of Institutional Advancement. Dr. Boudreaux’s vision for Nicholls State will prove to continue to increase the visibility of the university, attract faculty, grow enrollment, and truly become a legacy for years to come.

Most recently, a selection committee including Dr. Carol Britt (Department Head), Dr. Luciana Soares (Professor of Piano), and Mrs. Donna Sammarco (Staff Accompanist) traveled to the Steinway & Sons factory in Long Island City, NY to select a new concert instrument for the recital hall. It was of course the Steinway Model D Concert Grand, the overwhelming choice of pianists worldwide.

The Staff of Hall Piano Company Congratulates everyone involved with making this initiative a reality for the students of Nicholls State University.
