Pianist Spencer Myer is a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory, The Juilliard School and Stony Brook University, where his teachers included Peter Takacs, Joseph Schwartz, Julian Martin and Christina Dahl. He captured First Prize and five special prizes at the 2004 UNISA International Piano Competition in Pretoria, South Africa, which has resulted in three return tours, including recitals and performances of the five Beethoven Concerti and the two Ravel Concerti. Winner of the American Pianists Association’s 2006 Christel DeHaan Classical Fellowship, he is also a laureate of the 2007 William Kapell, 2005 Cleveland, 2005 Busoni (where he also received the Audience Prize) and 2003 New Orleans International Competitions. In October 2003, he made his New York recital debut in Weill Recital Hall, and his Asian debut in Beijing the fol¬ lowing year with the China National Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Myer has also appeared with the Cleveland Orchestra, Montreal Symphony and Johannesburg Philharmonic, under such conductors as Jahja Ling, Victor Yampolsky, Rossen Milanov, Arjan Tien and Jacques Lacombe. Since winning the 2000 Marilyn Home Foundation Competition, his growing reputation as a vocal collaborator has led to partnerships with 2007 Wigmore Hall Song Competition winner Martha Guth, 2005 Cardiff Singer of the World winner Nicole Cabell, and numerous others. Highlights of Mr. Myers past season have included debuts with the Dayton Philharmonic and New Haven, Santa Fe and Phoenix Symphonies, a return to the Indianapolis Symphony, and appearances at the Meadowlark and Cape Cod Chamber Music Festivals. His debut CD – works of Debussy Copland, Busoni and Ellis Kohs – was released in November on harmonia mundi usa.
