2011 Joey ChangAt the age of 10, Joey Chang drew attention to his “virtuosic promise” with a solo concert that included live improvisation during the Well-Prepared Pianist Institute international festival. He became the youngest top-prize winner of the Jacob Flier International Piano Competition in 2009 and made a debut concerto performance with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic under the baton of maestro Vladimir Feltsman. In addition to his many achievements in piano competitions such as International Russian Music, Schimmel Junior International, and Gina Bachauer PianoTeam, Joey’s passion for music further extends to composition. At the age of 7, he appeared as a junior original composer in the Yamaha USA concert. He has since written several works for solo piano and small ensembles, and continues to improvise during concerts. Joey is now 15 and attending the Peggy Payne Academy, a gifted program, in Tempe, Arizona. He began his piano studies with Dr. Tehling Chiang and is currently under the tutelage of Professor Robert Hamilton. He also plays cello, loves mathematics, and enjoys swimming and soccer.
