2011 Seika IshidaSeika Ishida began playing the piano at age three, starting piano lessons with Prof. Masahi Katayami at age four. She is an 8th grade student at a junior high school affiliated with Yamaguchi University. Some of her awards include a bronze medal at the 2008 Chopin International Piano Competition in Asia (Japan) in the Concert A Category and First Prize in the 2009 Vienna Young Pianists Competition in Vienna. Also in Vienna, she participated in the 2009 International Rosario Marciano Piano Competition where she won Second Prize, as well as the Best Schubert Prize, the Best New Piece, and the Best Young Artist prizes. In 2010 she was awarded First Prize in the Junior Category of the International Russian Music Piano Competition in California, and was a semi-finalist in the Junior Category of the 2011 Schimmel USASU International Piano Competition for Young Pianists in Arizona. Seika enjoys travelling, confectionary making, and playing with her Disney Bear “Duffy.”
