Trent Takaki is a sophomore at New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois. A student of Suzanne Metz for nine years, Trenton was one of seven National Finalists in the 2010 Music Teachers National Association Junior Performance Competition. He has received first place in numerous competitions, including the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition, the Illinois Music Association Competition, the Chicago Area Music Teachers Sonata-Sonatina Competition and the Illinois Music Association Memorial Competition. Most recently he received first place in the 2011 Hope College Young Artist Piano Competition, the senior division of the Illinois Music Teachers Association Piano Competition at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, and in the senior division of the 2010 Chopin Youth Piano Competition in Milwaukee. Trent has also received awards at the 17th Steinway Young Artists Competition, the DePaul Concerto Festival, and the Walgreens Concerto Competition. In May of 2009, Trenton made his debut at Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall at the Bradshaw Buono Winners’ Recital. In 2008, he was the youngest of seven finalists chosen to compete in the Lang Lang auditions in Symphony Center at Macy’s 12th Annual Day of Music. In June of 2011 he attended the Aloha International Piano Academy, performed in a master class with John Bayless, and studied with Norman Krieger, Sara Davis Buechner and Jon Nakamatsu. In July 2010 he attended the International Institute for Young Musicians Summer Academy and was chosen to perform in the Honors Recital after studying with Dr. Stephen Spooner and Dr. Nancy Weems. When not playing piano, Trent plays soccer for New Trier High School and is an avid Cubs fan.
